Recipe: Fruit Yogurt

I used to love yogurt when I was a child. I was allowed one for morning snack at home. Then, my sly self, would play outside with the neighbor kids and my neighbor would always have yogurt and I would go next door and ask them if I could have some yogurt. Of course, they said yes. I am unsure how long this went on, but, eventually, I was found out. I remember getting the speech from my Momma on how I was not to ask the neighbor for food and only eat what was at our house. My argument was that yogurt was yummy, though. It didn't work. I don't eat too much of it anymore. I guess taste buds change through the years and I'll dabble in it every now and then.

Several items are needed for this recipe. They are powdered milk, water, yogurt, almond extract, strawberries, honeydew melon, brown sugar, various canned or fresh fruit.

This first step needs to be made two days before hand, or if time is not permitting, then can buy 1 cup of vanilla yogurt at the store. Combine 1 1/4 cup powdered milk, 2 cups very hot water, and 2 tablespoons plain yogurt. Mix well and store in a very warm spot for 16 hours then refrigerate after that.

Combine either the homemade yogurt or the 1 cup vanilla yogurt, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract in a bowl and stir until smooth. Crush 1 pint of strawberries and drain. Stir into the yogurt mixture, cover, and refrigerate.

I normally put this mixture in a bowl and serve with fruits around it. My sister has taken a different spin on the serving and will hollow out a honeydew melon with a melon baller and put the yogurt inside the melon. Then, she will serve with the fruits around it.
