Recipe: Cheese Straws

I thought I would still go with the Autumn theme with scarecrows everywhere to be scene on front porches beside the pumpkins and mums. People are getting invited to theme parties and asked to bring side dishes or snacks and sometimes that means defaulting to your local grocery store for a quick pick up before heading out. How about something different this time and theme worthy? What about cheese straws?

Some items needed are hot sauce, cheese, flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and butter.

Preheat oven to 400*F.

Grease 2 baking sheets.

Combine 1 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, pinch of salt, pinch of cayenne pepper,  and 1 cup of any finely shredded cheese. Stir well in a large mixing bowl.

Cut 6 tablespoons of butter into slices and add to the mix. Cut in with a knife (or pastry cutter) until mixture is coarse crumbles.

Add 1 tablespoon cold water and 2 drops of hot sauce to mixture. Stir until forms a stiff dough.

Put mixture into a large ziploc bag and cut the one corner tip off to pipe dough through. Start small, about 1/2 inch, and cut a bigger opening if need be.

Pipe lengths onto greased pans about 4- 6 inches long. Space about an inch apart. Bake until slightly golden, about 10 minutes. Cool completely before serving.
