Recipe: Mushroom Basil Burgers

Hello everyone! Welcome back from Memorial Day weekend! A long weekend remembering those who died while serving in the country's armed forces. Memorial Day seems to mark the unofficial start to the summer vacation season and Labor Day seems to unofficially end it. What better way to kick-off the vacation season than with burgers?

Items needed are turkey, tomato, Parmesan, lettuce, buns, basil, Swiss cheese, bread crumbs, milk, egg, oil, mayonnaise, and portobello mushroom.

Ground turkey can be bought already packaged or I like to buy a small turkey and pull the meat off it and grind it in the food processor. I think it tastes better that way, but that could be in my head.

Combine 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 beaten egg in a large bowl and mix well.

Make 6 patties from the mixture using a burger press or hands.

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Cook patties for about 5-6 minutes and flip. Next, top each burger with a slice of Swiss cheese and cook for about 3 minutes. Then, top each one with a portobello mushroom and finish cooking for the last 3 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons basil, chopped fresh or dried. Spread on buns.

Assemble the buns by adding the burgers, tomatoes, and lettuce. Eat up and enjoy!
