Recipe: Onion Burgers

I thought we had warmer temps trying to creep in, finally, but I was wrong. It is raining and cool here today. This may not be the best motivating weather depending on what is being done. I just want to curl up in a blanket and heating pad for my shoulder and read a book or veg on some TV. First, gotta think about food so no one goes hungry.

Items needed are water (if using lean ground beef), Parmesan cheese, ground beef, buns, egg, salt, ketchup, pepper, oregano, onion, red pepper flakes, bread crumbs, and Worcestershire sauce.

Combine 2 pounds ground beef, 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, 1/4 teaspoon oregano, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire, 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, and 1 tablespoon water. Mix well.

Add 1 cup chopped onion to meat mixture and mix. This is roughly a medium sized onion.

Add 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese to meat mixture and do not over mix. Just enough to work in the ingredient.

Shape into 6 thick patties. Don't worry about the perfect shape of it. However, a hamburger press would help with making round ones if that is easier.

Cooking them is individual preference. Depending on weather, maybe the grill would be tasty. Maybe on top of the stove in a pan, or broiled. If want to broil, I would place the patties on a broiler pan and cook only turning once; 7-8 minutes on each side, 5 minutes for pinker meat.

Throw the buns on the broiler, after, for a toastier bun. Place patties on buns topped with sliced onions, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and lettuce.
