Health: 50 Pounds Down

It dawned on me this weekend that I haven't given an update on my weight loss journey. I have plateaued several times and then, of course, there was the Winter and holiday's. Nevertheless though, I plugged through; albeit, slowly. I've learned so much along the way, as well. The first thing that comes to mind is maintain. I've definitely learned how to maintain my weight. I think that is most important. Sure, losing the weight is great, however, maintaining is even better.

The body changes and metabolisms slow as age creeps in. Health affects certain things, too. Not to mention, just life! I started this journey May of last year, 2016. Right after my nephew got married. If can recall from my first update back in September, I already knew the Winter months were going to be a little harder. I don't know if I mentioned it before, however, I have FM, or the long version is Fibromyalgia. One learns to deal after 10+ years of having this. In laymen's terms, think of it as having the flu everyday of your life. Some days can be the end of it and some days can be in the thick of it, but always having it. Officially, Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, and memory issues. Although, not really focusing on that part of my life, but, mentioning it as it does have an impact on exercising and weight loss. Everyone has their own hurdles to overcome, but it can be done. Don't expect miracles overnight and love yourself, regardlessly and fearlessly.

I'm the first one on the left, a year ago, May 2016.

Here we are, a year later, and I am 50 pounds down. I started at a size 22 / 2x and now am a size 14/16 and a large; I am 5'11". I have 25ish pounds left to lose and am confident that can be done by year-end. My doctor said don't lose more than 10 pounds a month, and focus on the no more than 5 pounds a month mark to be healthy. I stayed at the 1 pound a month mark this past year and learned so much in the process. That is the bigger win for me; just maintaining and forgiving and accepting myself has been the true win.

June 2017

There are other parts of losing weight that people do not think about. People are not happy for you. It takes strength and determination. A reminder to some that they don't have that. Some don't see it as an accomplishment. They see it as a should've been. They say "oh" or "wow" when asked, or very few will comment on the weight loss. That is OK. Sure, we all want people to notice, but if not, that is OK. Remember why this was done. Was it truly done for someone to say something or was it done for ones self? Remember the reason of why all of this was started.

When one gains weight, it is normally a slow process over maybe a few years or more. OK, the one outfit doesn't fit anymore, so go out and buy one. A special occasion outfit is needed, so go out an buy one. It is a slow process to change out the clothes in the closet to the bigger body. However, when losing weight, it is normally a concentrated effort that happens and the clothes, most all, tend to not fit at the same time. It costs money to buy a new wardrobe. By all means, undoubtedly, it is super exciting and fun to buy a new wardrobe and ooh la la, look at me, oui oui. On the other hand, smaller clothes costs less, way less. Such, it's a trade off, and one I'm happy to make. Or, a good seamstress would work to resize the clothing or, better yet, learn a new skill for sewing.

As always, just live life and be happy. Do you and don't judge people. No one knows the story they have and we all have a story. In all things, be happy.
