Life: Eight Years Without Facebook

Hello! I wanted to watch the sunrise this morning, so when my husband left for the day, I got up. He normally is at work before it rises. I wonder if sometimes he watches the sunrise through the windows or is he head down working away? Sometimes it's the little things. I grabbed my coffee and my pipe so I could position myself at the glass doors to watch the beautiful morning come into view. It is snowy and windy and it looks beautiful working together to bring about a new day.

As you see from the title of this blog, I deleted my Facebook account some eight-ish years ago. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I started Facebook at the very beginning when it was just one page and you could send a teddy bear or poke someone and I didn’t understand the point of it, but my friends were telling me to get on it, so I did. I saw many changes as they grew and became “a thing”. I liked some changes and disliked others, as many other people.

The decision to delete my Facebook account came easy to me. I hate drama in my life and the negativity that surrounds it, so when Facebook got to be so drama ridden, I hit that link that deleted my account and never looked back. I have other platforms I use such as Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest. I don’t feel any loss in my life from not being on Facebook. I am surprised when people assume I have Facebook and just assume I’ll “find them on there” to keep in touch. I normally respond back with sure and you find me on Twitter and we part ways and never find each other.

Why I left and almost joined FB again
Twin Sister!!πŸ’—

My twin sister, Division Director at Sarah Cannon, was speaking with me the other day and mentioned I should join Facebook again and make a page for my Blog and YouTube and join the community to promote it. I thought about it for about a week and decided to do it and just focus on the business side of it. I dug in and created my page and spent about six hours getting it up and going. I was ready to have lift-off, hit save, and... wonk wonk. I got a message that stated my account had strange activity on it and I was locked out. They had me jump through hoops to verify it was me and would decide my fate and let me know if I could get back in.

If you know me, you know I’m not a hoop jumper and decided it only solidifies why I left Facebook to begin with eight-ish years ago. I’m not sure when I’ll be allowed back on Facebook, but when I am, I’ll be deleting it once again. I am find-able on many other platforms along with phone and email. I appreciate companies looking out for my safety concerns. I’m glad they have levels in place to help people. I’m not happy, though, that my account was locked before I even got it up and running. Such is life. On to bigger and better things.... and..... other platforms.

Let me know in the comments below your frustrations or happy stories about being locked out of an account.
